Paris (France), 3 December 2024 – SBM Formulation, a recognised specialist in the field of subcontracting for the formulation and packaging of crop protection products, is boosting its ability to respond to growing traceability requirements in its own and its customers’ markets by deploying the ZetesAtlas serialisation solution.

A key player in the crop protection sector

With 100 to 150 employees, according to the season, SBM is committed to supplying innovative, sustainable solutions to its partners in the crop protection industry. The company processes around 20,000 tonnes of products annually, with peaks reaching 3000 tonnes per month. During the periods of high demand, particularly from December to March, SBM gears up its production in anticipation of supplying the agricultural sector for springtime sowing.

By choosing the ZetesAtlas solution, the purpose of working with Zetes is clear: to comply with the strict regulations that require unit traceability of products. This practice has become mandatory in order to export crop protection products, to Türkiye for example, as a measure to combat the grey market. Although serialisation is not yet imposed worldwide, SBM expects this requirement to spread gradually across the global industrial market.

Flexibility and compliance in packaging operations

ZetesAtlas allows SBM to manage the compliant marking of products efficiently on its two main production lines. Combined with MD4000-series labelling machines, the solution prints and applies labels in serialized mode or by batch, as needed. With a production capacity of 20,000 litres per workstation, this represents 500 to 600 containers per hour. This performance gives SBM guaranteed full flexibility in the management of its packaging lines, which can suit different formats and volumes from 1 to 10 litres.

“Now, with ZetesAtlas, we guarantee optimum traceability of our products throughout their life cycle, in accordance with our CSR commitment.” Cyril Van Caneghem, SBM Site Manager.

Commitment regarding sustainability and energy management

SBM recently intensified its efforts to reduce its energy consumption. ZetesAtlas fits in perfectly with a sustainability and energy management approach, by optimising traceability processes. The automation and precision that this solution facilitates result in fewer errors and less reworking on the line. This limits the wastage of materials and energy. The integration of ZetesAtlas reinforces SBM's commitment to this approach by maximising operational efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of its production activities.

“With the ZetesAtlas solution, we can respond efficiently to the serialisation needs of both current and future customers. This technology bolsters our expertise and enables us to satisfy the strictest identification standards. Now, with ZetesAtlas, we guarantee optimum traceability of our products throughout their life cycle, in accordance with our CSR commitment,” says Cyril Van Caneghem, SBM Site Manager.
